Apple guilty of violating a patent of VirnetX for FaceTime: will pay $ 368.2 million

The decision of the jury was revealed by Bloomberg directly on Twitter, and refers to a dispute initiated by VirnetX in which Apple was accused of violating a number of patents related to a number of Californian company services, including FaceTime. VirnetX initially demanded compensation amounting to 900 million dollars and, despite Apple’s fine is much lower, it is still a significant figure, able to attract the attention of the technology sector.

This is not the first time VirnetX is obtained an important victory in courtrooms: already in 2010 forced Microsoft to pay $ 200 million for infringement of two patents used in Windows and Office to communicate with the server. VirnetX currently is involved in other disputes against Cisco and Avaya, and has in the past signed agreements to license its patents with several companies, including NEC and Mitel.
